When The Adventures of Superman™ #596 hit newsstands on September 12, 2001 it featured the well-recognized image of Clark Kent peeling away his shirt to reveal the very symbol of Superman™, the S-shield. Despite the image on the cover, the cover tagline for the story titled "Shipbuilding" was "This is NOT a job for Superman™". It speaks to the fact that much to the chagrin of President Lex Luthor and others, in the aftermath of the Imperiex War Superman did not take part in the recovery efforts like everyone expected. Superman™ explained that he came to the realization that he cannot do everything for mankind or it all becomes meaningless.
The obverse of the coin features the Susanna Blunt effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and the words "Elizabeth II D.G. Regina" and the artist's initials.
The reverse of the coin highlights a slightly different version of the iconic Red and yellow S-shield of Superman™. This time it is red with a black background which became a symbol of remembrance for those lost in the Imperiex War which was detailed in preceding issues. The view of Superman's™ face is partially obstructed, bringing the focus to Clark Kent peeling away his shirt and the Superman™ emblem underneath. The colour used in the shield and the overlapping of Clark Kent's tie and buttons helps to add to the illusion that the emblem is emerging from the coin and gives it an air of dynamic motion. The design is surrounded by the words "Canada 100 Dollars 2014" and the DC Comics™ trademark.
